Darlene Higbee Clarkin, founder and CEO of KORE Digital Health Therapeutics, created the MyHealthyGut app to solve a big problem. An uncomfortable problem. A problem that was impacting millions of people across North America: uncontrolled Celiac disease and other digestive health issues.
For those unfamiliar, celiac disease is an aggressive response to gluten that results in the immune system “attacking” the small intestine, and it’s much more common than most of us realize.
A 2009 study found that roughly 4x as many people today have the disease than those in the 1950s, today, impacting one in 133 Americans. That’s more than 2.4 million people in the United States alone. In addition, there are about 20 million Canadians – nearly two-thirds of the population – that suffer from at least one digestive disorder.

MyHealthyGut provides convenient and data-backed tools to not just celiacs, but also those with gluten-intolerance, and virtually anyone else looking to manage and improve their digestive health.
The app had the potential to improve the lives of millions. Clarkin just needed help bringing this idea to life. So she reached out to Troon.
By the time she connected with Troon, Higbee Clarkin already had a minimum viable product (MVP) and a solid vision for what she wanted the app to be at the end of its development.

As a registered holistic nutritionist (RHN), she possessed a keen understanding of the medical science and data, but lacked the technical know-how to effectively bring it all together and make her idea a reality.

Working in close collaboration with Higbee Clarkin, Troon was able to incorporate every tool and resource she wanted on the MyHealthyGut app.
The education section alone contains the equivalent of 350 pages of recent, relevant, and data-supported information on general digestive health, celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Troon created a multi-tenanted system that can quickly and conveniently be manipulated on the back-end by Higbee Clarkin and her team. This allows for the creation of personalized custom content, as well as future expansion to include IBS, IBD, Crohns, and more.
The KORE team can build unique user flows for both B2B and B2C users while adding new data and features as the app continues to evolve.
Since its launch on the Apple App Store, MyHealthyGut has been popular and well received, with an average rating of 4.6 out of five stars.
Users love the depth of knowledge and features that include daily journaling, symptom tracking, meal plans and recipes, real-time answers to FAQs from the in-built chatbot, alerts, tips, advice, and guidance on fostering a healthier gut and lifestyle.
Unsurprisingly, the app has also become a valuable resource for healthcare practitioners working with those suffering from digestive issues.
